Sometimes Life Is?

Sometimes life is drama
And we get buried in the
angst of it all.
We fear if the darkness
doesn’t lift our eyes will
be permanently sewn shut
like a newborn cat’s.

We sit by a sturdy table
made of walnut , while
the logs on the fire burn
out, contemplating the
fickleness of luck and
human emotions.
Listening to the rain wrack
the roof and windows.

Yes, sometimes life is misery,
but if we can withstand the
bad acting and poorly written
script, Life eventually becomes
maple and sugar again.

The fire burning away
hopeless things,
the repetitive and rhetorical.
Words once heavy become light.

We see our world through open
eyes filled with the enthusiasm
that only small children and
dreamers can understand.

We find solace in the now
and stop questioning what
wasn’t or was. We appreciate
what we have and find
renewed grace in the elements.
Sun or rain it doesn’t matter.
Refuge is found in those who
love the faces of our spirit
and understand the depth
of our souls.

On an unrelated note if you’re still here:

In his new live performance show, John Cleese wants us to know there is no hope in this dysfunctional world .However he conveys this message in such a glorious and delightful way that in the end, hopelessness looks pretty darn good. On Monday night I was fortunate enough to see Cleese in person. He did not disappoint. During the show he pontificated on the current state of  life and politics. While his performance at times felt like a deeply philosophical Ted Talk, his trademark black humor was still on full display. During the second half of the show Cleese took questions from the audience, a highlight to be sure.

I wish the pictures were better but no flash photography.  For those who celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving..  I’m grateful for you all.

I Hope You’re Happy

Y’all my hair has finally reach Lob status. Hooray.

Happy Momday. Yesterday we took a day trip to Columbia SC.  During our visit we toured the Robert Mills House and Gardens. Here’s some photos from the excursion, followed by music. This tune has a lot of meaning for me. It is my wish for you and everyone I love, those who remind and those who have moved on. I truly hope you all have happiness, tons of love, and everything.else good in the world. 💕

“I hope you’re happy

I hope you’re good

I hope you get what you wish for

And you’re well understood

And whatever your progress

I know you’ll be fine

Because I hope you’re happy

Even if you aren’t mine.”

Nature Walk

And a few quotes.

“Plant seeds of happiness, hope, success, and love; it will all come back to you in abundance. This is the law of nature.”-Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections

“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.”-Henry David Thoreau, Walden

“I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it.”-William Shakespeare

“Hey, wait for me, creep” 😜💕-Tosha Michelle

And just because he’s the cutest

Seeing The Cleese.

John Cleese is one of my favorite comedians. I’m old school, lovelies. .  I adore him. Many thanks to my Mister Constant for surprising me with tickets to his upcoming show. I’m so looking forward to seeing him live on the 19th. It should be a fun evening. If you aren’t familiar with his work, shame on you. 😜 Please allow me to catch you up.

Cleese is probably best known for his various roles in the British comedy Monty Python’s Flying Circus. I love him for his role as Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers. He is also known for his award-winning role as Archie Leach in the American / British comedy film A Fish Called Wanda. In honor of the upcoming show I give you one of his funniest television moments, followed by some Cleesisms.

“He who laughs most, learns best”

“The most creative people have this childlike facility to play.”

“A man will give up almost anything except his suffering.”

“The English contribution to world cuisine – the chip.”

“In Britain, girls seem to be either bright or attractive. In America, that’s not the case. They’re both.”

And now a tune for Wednesday. I so love these lyrics  and Vance Joy.

Gold, when you see me

Hi, if you need me

Babe, that’s the way it was

That’s the history

Blue, how we used to roar

Like an open fire

That’s the way it was

But that’s history

Happy Halloween

Greetings from Salem Massachusetts. Sharing a few pictures with you.  The first is this lovely hat I bought that was handmade in Naples. Adorable. The rest of the photos are self explanatory. Love to all.  Wishing you more treats than tricks 💕

All Through The Night

Flashback Friday. That has to be a thing, right? 🤔I was reminded of this wonderful gem of a song while watching “This Is Us” The keyboard loop gets me every time, such a hauntingly beautiful quality to it. One of Lauper’s best. Have a great weekend from Cyndil, the 80s, and me, myself and Tucker 💕

“We have no past we won’t reach back
Keep with me forward all through the night
And once we start the meter clicks
And it goes running all through the night
Until it ends there is no end”

And We Write

Poetry is all about perception.
It’s what we perceive, not what
we see.

It’s all in the rhythm.
The arrangement of the poetic
notes.

It’s about loosening those
syllables until they roll off our pens
in a dance of self.

We release our whimper and watch
it turn into a roar on paper

We write for preservation.
We write to empty the emptiness.
We write like we eat, to live

We spend our nights out on a limb                                                      so we can fall into the melody of our craft

Our souls writing on.                                                                            Finding salvation in verse

Thoughts and Things

Hey y’all. Happy Thursday! Isn’t October such a beautiful month? I love the cooler weather.  I hope you all are enjoying it too. I appreciate your continued support of my blog. WP is such a lovely community. I’ve really lost my taste for social media recently, but I always feel at home here. Thanks for that.

Okay, now just a few random things for today in my typical list fashion.

1. I am having outpatient eye surgery in January. I’m really excited because it will help my vision and also remedy this awkward head tilt thing I do. I’m all for anything that gives me more vision and less awkwardness.
2. Flying to Boston a week from Sunday. Going to spend a few days in Salem Massachusetts and Portland Maine. I’m really excited because it looks so pretty.  Lots of travel in the works. Planning a trip to Seattle and Vancouver in the spring.  Scotland next fall. I’m a homebody by nature, but I do have a bit of wanderlust in me. There’s so many places I want to see.

3. I’ve mentioned this before, but over the last couple of years, I had kind of lost my soft demeanor. I was really starting to become jaded towards people. It felt like there was just one betrayal after another. It was starting to make me bitter and really untrusting. There was a hardness about me that had never been there before . However, something has started shifting in me recently and I feel more like the old me. I’m learning to let go of grudges and bad feelings. I’m really feeling my humanity again and my empathy is in the driver’s seat, but what’s with all the idioms? Geez.

Look we are all screwed up. Sometimes people hurt us and sometimes we hurt people. Hopefully, without intent or malice, but it happens. In our society we are so quick to cannibalize someone simply for making a mistake. It’s really disturbing when people find joy in the downfall of others. I wouldn’t wish pain even on my worst enemy. Negative energy just breeds more negativity.

I’ve always worried that I was too soft and empathetic, too much of a sucker. Mostly because other people labeled me as gullible and too Pollyanna-ish  I realize now that I would rather be soft and kind, than angry and petty. I just want to love people and be giving. Just don’t make me hang out with them. Still clinging to my antisocial self. Ha!

5. My lovely penciltastic frienf Eric has a new book out. It’s titled Pantheon and it’s a must read. He’s such a gifted writer and a wonderful human being. A little about the book:

“Eric Syrdal’s Pantheon is the novel told in free-verse that you never knew you needed to read. Epic in scope but always deeply rooted in its humanity, it defies genres and expectations. “Pantheon is a thrilling philosophical journey exploring the depth and meaning for one passing through a metaphorical world of inner demons and dragons, goddesses of the soul, of warrior and poet. A journey that crosses boundaries of time, space, and perception. I am captured by the intimate revelations of this intuitive and sympathetic protagonist battling the dark ages of his subconscious moving instinctively forward into innerscape, relying upon and exalting the virtue goddesses that guide and deliver him from barbarity and trial by ordeal both physical and spiritually as he transports from one state of being to another, from one point of time to another”Holly Rene Hunter””
