Author of Confessions of a Reformed Southern Belle: A Poet’s Collection of Love, Loss, and Renewal and Self Help to Self Harm: The Dubious Guide to Life, Love, and Relationships.   Abolitionist.  Academia addict. Radio Host -Chit Chat Chicks Live and La Literati. Book worm. Perpetual nerd and dreamer.

I am also a woman-child in a state of grace, struggling to find my voice and place in this world through introspection, self-reflection, and most importantly by social activism and advocacy. I firmly believe in these words: “Be the change you want to see.” It is only through love, tolerance, humility and the understanding of our own fragility that we can begin to find our humanity and, in turn, extend that humanity to others.

Love combined with action can and will make an impact on the world. It takes heart and guts to take on the seemly insurmountable, and we must. We must take a stand against injustices such as human trafficking, child abuse and poverty. Can one person change the world? Absolutely! Picture a world without Martin Luther King, without Gandhi, without Mother Teresa, and the countless other men and women who fought injustices in their culture, challenged the seemingly unchallengeable, and helped change their societies for the better.

and then there’s spending time with my beautiful family, sleeping in late after staying up all night, writing for hours on end, singing at the top of my lungs to anyone who will listen, seeing friends, those moments before dawn, handwritten letters, walking everywhere, nature, listening to beautiful music, finding an amazing bit of poetry, drinking lots of sweet tea, eating Godiva chocolates, laughing about the most pointless things, being completely in love, dreams, the night sky, the two most beautiful cities on earth Charleston, London…

I also happen to be sucker for all things independent art, music, countries, thinkers…

  5. You are an amazing young woman! At least you look pretty young in your pic. But even when you are no longer young, I can tell you will always be young at heart. I love everything that you stand for & wish you all the best that life has to offer. 😉 ❤
Here's hoping we both can make a difference in this crazy, convoluted world!
    Peace & blessings,

P.S. I think you might enjoy the video my husband made for my novel. He wrote the song too:

    1. Thanks. I’m definitely fall into the middle age wise, but people always think I’m a lot younger. Perhaps, because I have the voice of a 12 year old. Ha-ha It’s lovely to meet you. I really appreciate the kind comments.

  6. Sadly, today there are more slaves than any other time in history. It is so encouraging to know there are people who are more concerned with the state of the world than their wardrobe.

Tosha, I am honored that you are following justkeepingitREAL. It warms my heart to know you will be visiting me.

    Have a great day!

    1. O know. It’s distressing and disheartening. I shouldn’t be, but I’m always shocked at how cruel people can be to each other.

On a lighter note, it’s my pleasure to read your musings. I thank you for reading mine.

  7. Tosha, you have been so generous visiting my “sports” blog and liking my writing. I value your time but I ask you to visit my non-sports site at lifeattitudes.wordpress.com …and maybe follow me there as well? With your superior artistic talent and the topics you address so well I think you would enjoy that site of mine more. It’s where I deal in the realities of life instead of the fantasy that is sports. In any event I enjoy your blog so very much and look forward to being a frequent commenter. Take care, Bruce B.

  8. A fellow Advocate and I’ve just recently changed Advocate to Abilities Crusader, I’m not surprised that you are a change maker just from reading the poem “Tell Me” I got a sense that you have deep insight into the human condition. ~Steph

      1. Thank you Tosha! ❤ I used to refer to myself as an advocate but I'm borrowing a term I heard last week Abilities Crusader because it really speaks to fighting for positive change in the area of disabilities. When we focus on our abilities then the fact that we have a disability becomes less important.

  9. go girl. you rock. I was a hospice chaplain and got really pissed when people treated people on hospice as if they were already dead!!!!! yea, I have some stories. one guy was starving to death because he was afraid and agressive and no one would feed him…….i got him to eat and found someone to feed him….caring like that is not real complicated……..but you do or you don’t…and so many just don’t……don’t grow weary in well doing and laugh a lot…i do anyway.

  10. Precious friend. Forgive my illiteracy in English. I congratulate her on her blog and its cause, which is a common cause of all. Trafficking in persons is really a serious problem. Count with me. I like your blog, verses and texts. A big hug from Brazil. God protect and inspire. Bye.

  11. I’ve nominated you for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award so now you have to answer another 10 questions about yourself. Just kidding, you don’t have to but I like your blog and thought others should enjoy it too.

  12. Elijah Parish Lovejoy, the heroic abolitionist of olde, was quite a guy. I first read about him in the book, They Shall Be Heard, about newspaper editors, when I was in high school studying journalism. Your “About” and awesome poetry reminded me of him.

Carry on, Ms. Michelle, carry on!

  13. Hi there, Tosha! I love your header, art and poetry. I’m still a child/woman at 72, and it keeps you young, I can tell you. So keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll live a long and healthy and youthful life. I’ve just seen “Youth” by the way, and it’s a wonderful movie. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s not, (because it doesn’t have a story): Not true, and anyway, it’s beautiful.

    1. Thank you. It looks like an interesting movie. I’m going to see it for sure now. Nice to connect with you. I truly believe our spirits can stay young forever. Age is irrelevant. It’s the living that counts.
