I captured the shots below while spending time at Middleton Place, exploring America’s oldest garden. I didn’t realize at the time the resolution on my iPhone had been set to low. Grr! I definitely want to visit again in the spring with better resolution and sunshine in view. On this outing, it became progressively cloudy and colder as the day went on. I imagine the landscape is especially stunning in warmer weather with all the flowers in bloom.
“Charleston has a landscape that encourages intimacy and partisanship. I have heard it said that an inoculation to the sights and smells of the Carolina lowcountry is an almost irreversible antidote to the charms of other landscapes, other alien geographies. You can be moved profoundly by other vistas, by other oceans, by soaring mountain ranges, but you can never be seduced. You can even forsake the lowcountry, renounce it for other climates, but you can never completely escape the sensuous, semitropical pull of Charleston and her marshes.”

Wow! These are stunning (I can’t believe these were low res shots!) I think the cloudy day gives the photos ‘atmosphere’ – a totally different feel from the same views on a sunny day. Love the huge old trees and the Spanish moss. Beautiful shots!

Thanks. That means a lot. In some ways it reminded me of being back in England. It definitely had an old world vibe to it. That’s the beauty of the South.
