These Days

This current political climate
is akin to living with a loaded
gun in your mouth every day.
You wonder if pulling the trigger
would lead a fresh pair of lungs.
Instead you put pen to paper.

Your heart bathe in ink.
Your arteries pumping hard
to avoid toxicity.
You grow nostalgic for the
days of civility and a
modicum of common sense.

You look for a staircase to climb
that is not featured on the next
Netflix’s sensation.
You try and contemplate how
not to make a murderer
Marveling at the bias nature
of it all.

You wonder when common ground
got swallowed by quicksand.
The true enemy of the state
a dichotomy of anger and hate.
An aching obsession with self.

This asylum of our own making.
We forget we have the tools
to disassemble it.
It’s begins with kindness and
a willingness to listen.
Words not laced with malice
or rhetoric, but words that speak
of action, of love, and a propensity for
critical thinking.

  1. I agree dear Tosha.

We must slow down our world. Many struggling. Like you said. Lead with concern, kindness and listen to the people near.
I agree television show too much violence. New generation must learn. Every life had value. Powerful and needed words my friend.

  2. It will be ok, hopefully we won’t have to recover from Third Reich- scale Cataclysms to make it so. I am encouraged the House flipped (this from a heretofore usual Republican), my Republican Party is gone, it has succumbed to the imperatives of cruelty and tribalism, the worst angels of our nature. But it will be ok, we know what to do, you gave it to us:

    ““It’s begins with kindness and

I have come up with Lona’s Aphorism, the more I think about it, the calmer it makes me feel, and the more I feel moved to action… here it is girlfriend:

Kindness wins, but only because it doesn’t have to.

It will be ok, hang on, listen, and vote. (I’ll vote for you)
