Hello lovelies. It’s a Salinger kind of day. Last night I rewatched a fairly good documentary that’s been out for more than a minute on the famed author. I’ve always been a little jealous of Salinger’s hermit lifestyle and his talent for prose and oddness. He was an enigma to be sure.
In the documentary, aptly titled Salinger filmmaker Shane Salerno examines the life and works of this strangely beautiful man. The film is compelling and inspiring. There’s also never before seen footage of Salinger. Like most of us he had his flaws and quirks. The documentary presents these complexity in a fair way. I’m not going to do a full review, as I’m writing a lot for my new job, but if you haven’t seen it, it’s definitely worth a gander. I’ve also starting rereading his short stories RAISE HIGH THE ROOFBEAMS, CARPENTERS.
In honor of Salinger. I give you a few quotes, one of my infamous list and a tune. There’s always a tune!
“Among other things, you’ll find that you’re not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behavior. You’re by no means alone on that score, you’ll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You’ll learn from them—if you want to. Just as someday, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It’s a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn’t education. It’s history. It’s poetry.”
“I’m sick of just liking people. I wish to God I could meet somebody I could respect.”
“People are always ruining things for you.”
“I wouldn’t exactly describe her as strictly beautiful. She knocked me out, though.”
And..
Which brings me to my list of likes and dislikes

Thanks. I’m not feeling particularly poetic at the moment so trying to write about different topics. I think my site will be a mixture of random musings with poetry mixed in from now on. I wrote so prolifically for a couple of years but that paced has slowed down with various commitment and such. I’ll always write though. Sending lots of love and light your way. Just caught up on your latest posts. Really wonderful stuff.

how appropriate that phony people are at the top of your list of dislikes, since they were the bane of one Holden Caufield

Never heard of this man before. Thank you for sharing. I like his quotes. I myself have many likes and dislikes. I dislike hateful people, ungrateful people, mean people, but I like friendly people, beautiful people and of course traveling photos, railroads. I will say that he was a great wise man. As for Tosha Michelle, she is one truly wonderful, gorgeous, amazing and lovely lady.

Very inspiring! I like your likes/dislikes and can relate! I do like Math & mornings but I’m not good at Math at all and I never used to be good at getting up in the morning until I got my current job and have to get up early! Some other things I like are: the changing of the seasons, salted caramel hot chocolate, acts of kindness, organ/ blood donation, animals, my job, people, reading scary book and watching scary movies at night, friendship, rain, inspiring quotes, romantic comedies, sappy love songs… Some things I don’t like are: having to be out long in scorching hot weather, when people lack compassion for others, when it’s hot in October, coffee with no milk/cream, racism, homophobia, immigration bans, people not having access to healthcare they need…. ❤ And Salinger, I don’t know much about him but whenever I read about him, it’s good, interesting stuff so he goes in the “like” category and you, definitely on my list of loves! Beautiful inside & out!! ❤❤

I was reading all Salinger work this Summer. His comrades in WW2, only knew him. His desire to disappear. I believe many reasons. His unit in WW2, lost more men than any unit in USA history. He lived with death near for three years. He came out from his solitude for his soldiers. They asked him once. What do soldier think when in war. He told them. Only thought was to live. He lost his true love to Charly Chaplin and his writing became his cane. .Salinger life was sad. Once he was a brilliant and active man. War and publishers made him seek a private life.

I wonder if he had PTSD. Life has a way sometimes of harming us all

I believe he did. He was a opposite person after returning from the war. Before the war. Active and he had many friends. WW2 logic. Go home, forget the war and start over. His division took back Germany. His unit lost 3000 men. I agree Tosha. I hope his son release his books before I die. Rumor had it. Many great books stored away.
