No Easy Bake

It’s rarely ever simple for
men or women, even as
they lie entwined in bed.
Sharing their lives and secrets.
There’s always the flickering
of the night light,
stars catching flame overhead.
What is it that lovers need
to love endlessly, a flight map
of scars, the coordinates to
Neverland? What if
the compass is broken?
Can we draw another map.
In the morning we’ll venture
out beyond eggs and grits
to the edge of the moon
where it might be possible
for us to hold on or let go.

      1. That’s pretty much how I picture you dearest Tosha, in your flowing embroidered gown, are you wearing it now I wonder? Perhaps sipping some iced gin, maybe? Musing away – as muses do! Xx 😍

      2. Yeah, let’s go with that. Your version is much more elegant. In reality, I’m in yoga pants and t-shirt thinking about how I’d rather eat a doughnut than workout. Ha! A bit malaise today. Normally though I’d be sipping ice tea on the veranda while trying not to get the vapors over comments like this 😜💕

  1. Reblogged this on sherriemiranda1 and commented:
Love Tosha’s poem AND her choice of song! You go, girl! 😉 ❤
Sherrie Miranda’s historically based, coming of age, Adventure novel “Secrets & Lies in El Salvador” is about an American girl in war-torn El Salvador:
Her husband made a video for her novel. He wrote the song too.

  2. Cute title (in the best way), but I love the brevity and poetic flow of this one. I love the lines, “there’s always the flickering / of the night light, / stars catching flame” and later, “What is that lover’s need / to love endlessly, a flight map/ of scars the coordinates to Neverland, what if/ the Compass is broken ?” It’s true when you’re alone with your partner/boyfriend/husband etc. life can seem almost perfect and comfortable. Unreal as the magic of Neverland. But ywhen morning or whatever else happens, life and love gets complicated. And I wonder do we have a compass except for our hearts and heads (when they both love and think clearly)? Maybe it’s something we have to navigate and learn on our own, perhaps with the help of each other and our friends and family. With experience? Great music choice again 🙂
