The Chill Factor

image

I just want a corner to lie
down in.

Pull the covers over
my heart.

Let it get buried in
snow.

Somewhere underground
where the coordinates get lost

A hideout from worry and the
slow burn out of life.

My calendar whited out.
My fingers too cold to hold.
My lips too raw to kiss the end note.

And I can live in the moment
before.

A frozen vessel alone
in the stillness.

My soul encased in a thousand
miles of Arctic air.

      1. Yes, I don’t like it when it’s too hot but will take it over cold any day. I think most are like me but it’s nice to be unusual and clearly it’s an inspiration for you.

  1. I love this, often also look for a corner to catch up with my self, here though there is only rain, it snows in the mountains around us. Thanks for choosing this track by the little river band,. I did not like them much when growing up, but like them more and more now, and see dolphins and whales, which my favorite animals, what more could one want! Best wishes and blessings, Charles. 🙂

  2. ‘My lips too raw to kiss the end note’ – that’s the line in this one that gives me a image so vivid I can taste it. Another amazing one!!! 😃

This paints a chilling picture, in a even still summer night.
Consumed & given in, between the longing for love, & the struggle for a long ends deep sleep of peace.
Great piece of work, as always. xo

  4. “A hideout from worry and the slow burn out of life.” Really nice poem Tosha, with such profound thoughts, your poem is like an escape to another world. A cold one, but one that seems worth visiting ! 😉
