It’s Only Life

image

It was weeks of those days
when my head was on fire.

My heart was enclosed by
high gate, overrun by bramble

And even the fabric of my dress
rubbed me the wrong way.

Every one of my fingers longed
for the same thing, a neck to
curl around.

My legs fragile beneath me
knelt in the grass

Clarity came when I lifted my
cloak of blue.

The petty things will mean
nothing when death claims
our last breath.

We’ll lie down in the green
with the ants.

And watch as they tirelessly
push the crumbs around

  1. So many thoughts and images come too my head. I’m relaxed by the thoughts of kneeling in the grass, but it’s erotic to think of the dress rubbing the wrong way (I blame that on me being a dirty old man!). All in all, I really like this one.

  2. Wonderful, so well written! I LOVE THIS, brilliant! I thought everyone lives like this, endless weeks of “those days”. Beautiful image and “It’s Only Life”, the perfect music video! (For some crazy reason I thought you would pick an image of Forrest Gump, the eternal optimist!) Have a great evening! ~ Mia 😉

    1. Well my mama always said blogging was like a box of chocolates. Ha. You’re killing me with the movie references 😉 Thank you for reading and always being so kind. It doesn’t go unnoticed. Have a peaceful cinematic night.

      1. Lovely one, you are so welcome! Thank you, I think I should watch something with Jeremy Irons, you know when he was a bit younger, maybe, “Lolita”. It’s such a feel good movie! Ha-ha! 😉

  3. I think my favorite aspect of your poetry is, while it’s visually stunning and rich in character and substance, the big wow factor doesn’t hit me until the last line. It’s like you’re holding back, saving everything for the finale!:)

You have so much wisdom for the young woman you seem to be! NEVER, ever stop writing! 😉 ❤
