For you, I would paint
the undercoat of grey
a cheery yellow.
We would live well
in a settled blue,
touched by fiery red.
I would give you words
to eat, starting from
scratch. Syllables that
teach us how to be happy,
how to negotiate with
dark clouds.
For you, I would gloss
the vernacular of porn
stars, and crack the night
open with anatomy,
and backseat geography.
Unbuttoned periwinkle
shirt, pants flying off.
I’d be the force of nature
you saw God in.
a piece of light that turns
to a flame.
I’d take you where we
could water the moon.
Two celestial wonders
finding a new constellation.
Alive and quivering in
the unknown.
For you, I would offer
my fractured soul and
a flight map of scars
I’d give you my outlaw
truths, the real story,
and a fresh love
devoid of pipe smoke.
I would give you days
made entirely of lilacs
and grapes.
Together we would relearn
how to claim the drumbeat
and rise like a dove,
just winging it.
-Tosha Michelle
My cover of “Falling Slowly” One of my favorite songs.
Wow!! Brava, Tosha! This is amazing!
I especially like this stanza:
For you, I’d be the force
of nature you saw God in.
a piece of light that turns
to a flame.
That’s an amazing piece.

Beautiful and uplifting poem, Tosh. And, for me, your version of Falling Slowly is second only to The Scientist. I love your writing and your music, but you know that. xx

Wow, this is fantastic! The entire piece resonated so deeply. I could quote it all as my favorite but here are few especially connecting phrases. “I’d be the force of nature you saw God in. a piece of light that turns to a flame.” And, “I’d take you where we could water the moon. Two celestial wonders finding a new constellation. Alive and quivering in the unknown.” Dreamy and passion filled…love it!

I really cannot imagine anything more that a man could ask for. This is perfectly expressed and just soars to great heights, while still reminding me of heated passion in the back of a car. You truly felt this one Tosha

Great Tosha. The use of colors in your poetry. The analogies. The song. Are you singing with a band?

This was phenomenal! Nicely done. I haven’t read through all your published work quite yet and I am not sure if I ever will, but from what I have had the time to read, this has been my favorite thus far. I caught myself re-reading it at least 5 times, using your words to bring meaning to myself and the way I think of things. This had depth and yet was not too complex. I enjoyed it greatly!
