If only I could find the train
back to you.
The crossroads are nothing
more than a Trader Joe’s now.
And I can’t even get you on an
imaginary phone.
All day long I try and call.
You were always the sky
that drowned me the most.
My heart stiffing faster
than clothes on a line,
then turning into a hard
remorseful verse of poetry
to be recited under a full
moon by the river’s dark mouth.
Fire feed the soul.
Breathe in ash.
The spirit swims away.
The body dredging dirt.
And in the distance a train
rounds another bend.
-Tosha Michelle
“by the river’s dark mouth”
Wow, No one but you. Once again.♡

Oh man, I hate it when they turn the crossroads into a Trader Joes. I mean, the parking lot alone, right?

Isn’t that the truth about a stiff heart, just like clothes dried on the line, I always thought they could stand by themselves. “You were always the sky”, is to cry for. This poem is truly lovely and deeply heartfelt. Tosha, wishing you a wonderful evening and weekend. ~ Mia ❤

Yes. I know my heart could use a little fabric softener on occasion. The world and people can overwhelm at times. Thank you for the kind words. Make sure to be kind to yourself as well. Wishing you a peaceful and serene weekend.

Love it, Tosha. And the last line makes me think about sleeping at my granny’s house as a kid and hearing the trains off in the distance at night.

There’s nothing like the distant song of a train. I remember them well…also at my grandmothers’ house.
