Bedtime Benediction

image

Come to bed.

We’ll nestle like a pair of saucers.

Let me press my breasts

into your back,

my hand over your heart,

Even when I can’t sleep

it’s a comfort to feel

your breaths,

to take notice of

the strength of your body

There’s a lullaby in the way

your skin unfurls.

My lips drift across

your shoulder

in three quarter time.

Every second edible

in its sereneness.

This mouthy soulful love

and a kiss for the infinite

I snuggle closer and whisper

a bedtime prayer of praise

for life and the small reasons.

  1. A very beautiful poem. Most often the small reasons are the most important. I love the small hot air balloons, the birds seemingly floating in clouds above cups of memories. The music is a perfect compliment of the three. Thank you.

  3. What a lovely benediction indeed. A perfectly romantic poem to initiate the weekend before Valentine’s day for many. There are so many lovely lines in your poem as usual but I particularly loved the last three verses. They reflect so well that snug feeling one gets when snuggling against a loved one in bed 🙂
