Upon Missing The Train

image

You thought you were at an impasse,
a standstill. But that was just your heart
slowing down to acknowledge the pain

You don’t realize there are worst things
than missing the train, busting
your knee, the morning wasted.

Running from your past.
Drowning your demons in gin and pills.

You prefer a prescription pad
to a subscription to pain.

Widowed from your feelings.
You crave the next fix.

Anything to get you where
you’re going.

You look for a treasure map
scrawled in a dome of stupor.

Where the winds remain static
and the gravel never get stuck
between your toes.

You swim in a diluted river
by trees that don’t shrink or grow.

Nature weeps for the despondency of you.

I weep for the unlived life beneath you.

      1. I was just telling my brother today that life happens while we’re living (planning for tomorrow) and while it may take some adjusting to it’s important to be present else we will find ourselves in that very position of looking back and wondering what happened to our lives.

  1. So beautifully captured the spirit of those lost souls who don’t want to feel, who would do anything to not be in touch with their emotions yet at the same time dwell in the wallowing of self-pity. A powerful write indeed. Kudos to you Tosha, you always nail it.

  2. Tosha, I was just going to comment on your post today when we “went to air” (I always wanted to write that!). This poem is Wonderful with a capital “W,” my new favorite. No need to quote phrases because I’d be quoting the whole darn thing! 🙂 I hope you’re getting to share your poetry with your podcast audience because your poetry needs to be shared (and I’ll bet you’re a wonderful reader as well). One day soon let’s chat via phone, 🙂

    1. Thank you. It was so wonderful to talk to you today. We must phone chat in the future. Of all the writers today, I identify most with your work. I think we have similar styles. It was lovely learning more about your background.

I know I have your phone # — I’ll check with you about when would be a good time. And today’s post: fabulous! And, I meant to add: I’m so glad you’re introducing me to all of these great musicians/singers; helps me to broaden my musical horizons. 🙂

  3. Whew, you tapped into a dark place for this one…such range in your art! This would be great playing as an alarm wakeup for mornings where we know motivation may be lacking, ha! 🙂

      1. How rude that you should think I’m being to you who are being rude to me for being rude to you for being rude me for being rude to you for being rude to me for…
Oh, you get the picture by now! Haha
