The Sky is Falling.

image

If you think you are the
sun, think again.
You are the sky
holding the sun up,
trying to change the world
one dawn at a time.

Even if you don’t have time,
notice the new day.
We are so busy we forget
we’re out of milk.
We forget how we use to
hunger for a fulfilled life.

At first there was vitamin D
in excess, now just deficiency.

We can’t live if we are constantly
trying to escape our reality,
ourselves.

I’m a litany of doubts.
Wondering if I should lower
my expectations.

Maybe I’m still the sun.
Maybe the sky is your
hand.

I remember when our sky of delusions fell.
You spoke to me only in scars.

I’m trying my best to be
your nightcap, your safe route,
your whimsical merry go round.

Imagination echoes
in every chamber.
Hope lingers.

Is it enough?

The sky cries “Forget it”.
Sometimes, we are just lost.

  1. I apologize if I’m double posting here, but my first comment went missing! Anyway, the acapella performance was fantastic, and I’m looking forward to hearing your original.

  2. “We can’t live if we are constantly trying to escape our reality,
ourselves.” Yes, this….but we try anyway. don’t we?
Your singing is beautiful and the poem is amazing, Tosha.
Thank you for sharing both with me.

      1. Oh, you’re totally welcome! I’m still pretty congested, but this is the best I’ve felt in days, so that’s a big plus.:)

By the way, it just occurred to me that the title of this poem reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “The Sky Is Crying.”

      2. Me, too. I heard it a few weeks ago, but prior to that I hadn’t heard it in years. At the same time, it saddened me a bit because that was the late SRV. I love him so much! Thank you, I’m sure I’ll be much better by then.

  3. So, I want to comment about the line that stuck out to me:
“We are so busy we forget we’re out of milk.”
I ADORE simplicity and nuance of life and philosophical observation.
That one line said everything. (Couldn’t help playing with your blog’s tag line 😉 )

  4. Both are so beautiful I can’t decide which I like better, the song or the poem. I’ll keep them both for now at par beautiful lady! Really enjoyed your acapella performance. I actually think it is better when your voice does not have accompaniment

  5. I agree with a couple of your other readers on this bit that really spoke to me “We can’t live if we are constantly trying to escape our reality, ourselves.” The poem is beautiful and your voice is so pure I almost felt like crying you sing so beautifully.

  6. Miss ToshaMichelle
you’ve received wonderful comments, so many, this may get lost in the shuffle lol but needed to say. your poem is brilliantly written, your song choices spot on and your voice is soothing and moving. I sensed soul with attitude in a few runs, very cool. Also a little Elvis vibration in the first song ala “look away, look away Dixieland…” super cool
Thank you for sharing your art
